Promoting understanding of the causes of, impacts of and solutions to water pollution and facilitating cross-party parliamentary action
The UK’s waters are polluted by a dangerous cocktail of agricultural, sewage and chemical pollution. We are at a pivotal time for addressing water pollution, and this APPG serves as a vehicle to support Parliamentarians in the call for clean rivers, lakes and seas.
The APPG aims to give voice to communities affected by pollution and highlight solutions to clean up our waters. The APPG provides an educational platform for parliamentarians to deepen understanding of water pollution, an issue at the heart of the public’s concerns.
The idea for setting up the APPG came from Ellie Chowns MP who approached River Action to act as the Secretariat. Surfers Against Sewage joined as Co-Secretariat to represent the ocean communities and campaigners. Seahorse Environmental has been hired by River Action and Surfers Against Sewage to support on the day to day running of the APPG. More information about these organisations and the APPG’s funding can be found here.
